Porcelain Inlays

Dental professional showing porcelain inlays to female patient.

An inlay restorative procedure consist of a custom-made gold, composite material or porcelain fillings. Porcelain inlays are popular because they look and feel like genuine teeth. Your dentist places a porcelain inlay, which is produced in a dental laboratory, permanently into the tooth.

Dental inlays can be used to gently restore teeth that have extensive flaws in their fillings or a tooth that have been harmed by trauma or decay. As an alternative to traditional silver and composite fillings, inlays are excellent. Inlays are also less invasive than crowns since less tooth structure is removed during the preparation process.

Inlays, like majority of dental restorations, are not necessarily permanent and may eventually need to be replaced. They are extremely strong and long-lasting, giving you a gorgeous, lasting smile.

Inlay restorations are done for the following reasons:

  • Cracked or broken teeth.
  • Improvement in appearance.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • Broken fillings.
  • Extensive fillings.

What is involved in getting an inlay?

Typically, an inlay process needs two sessions. A temporary repair and multiple extremely precise impressions (molds) will be created during your initial session in addition to your customized inlay.

The dentist will clear away any decay and/or previous filling materials while the tooth is sedated. In order to effectively fit an inlay repair, the area will then be completely cleaned and prepped. While your inlay is being created in a dental laboratory, a temporary filling will be placed to safeguard the tooth.

Your new inlay will be carefully and accurately positioned during your second session. In order to guarantee a perfect fit and that your bite is comfortable, a few changes may be required.

After your treatment, you will receive instructions on how to take care of yourself. A healthy diet, regular dental appointments, and good oral hygiene habits will all help your new inlay last longer.
