Want To Replace Missing Teeth? Here Are Some Options!

Plastic teeth model of implant supported dentures.

If you or a loved one are missing teeth, then you’re familiar with the impaired aesthetics and debilitating loss of function it causes. Patients experiencing tooth loss suffer from a prematurely-aged appearance and complications with chewing food.

Thankfully, modern dentistry provides a host of options to replace missing teeth and restore your smile.

Bridges

Permanent bridges area great option for patients who are missing just one or two teeth. A bridge is a lifelike restoration that is affixed to surrounding teeth, giving the appearance of a full smile. Bridges are non-invasive; however, they do require some preparation to the surrounding teeth.

To prepare for a bridge, surrounding teeth will be capped with a crown. These crowns are connected to the prosthetic bridge and keep it securely in place.

Dentures

A full or partial set of dentures can quickly replace multiple teeth. Denture prosthetics are affordable and can improve the lives of patients with missing teeth.

The prosthetic teeth are realistic and functional but will need maintenance to function properly. Dentures need the regular application of adhesive gel to stay securely fixed to the gums. Also, without teeth, the bone structure supporting the gums will shrink. To accommodate the ongoing changes in the jaw shape, dentures will need to be adjusted to prevent slippage and discomfort.

Dental Implants

Although a more invasive procedure, dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that restores the full function of a tooth. Without a tooth root, the jaw bone shrinks at an accelerated rate. Dental implants keep the jaw full and stimulated like a natural tooth would.

Dental implants can be used alongside a variety of restorations and can replace up to a full arc of teeth, a row of teeth, or a single tooth.  Implants can support dentures, and prevent bone loss and slippage. They last longer than traditional bridges and have a 95% rate of success.
