• Tooth damage. A highly decayed or traumatized tooth that cannot be restored by restorative measures must be extracted. If damaged teeth are not removed, they can cause agonizing pain and discomfort.

• Crowded mouth. When teeth no longer fit comfortably in the mouth, dentists may take them out to ensure perfect alignment.

• Impacted teeth.  If a wisdom tooth grows abnormally or becomes impacted, there may be no option but to have the teeth pulled out.

• Tooth infection. The pulp, which is found in the center of the tooth and is related to nerves and blood vessels, may be affected by tooth damage or dental decay. When germs get within the pulp, an infection may start and get worse. The only alternatives for infected teeth to stop the spread of infection are tooth removal or root canal treatment.

• Threat of infection.  Some teeth may need to be extracted from patients whose immune systems have been damaged (example include cancer and organ transplant recipients) in order to reduce the risk of infection.

• Gum or periodontal disease. The gums, tissues, and bones that support and surround the teeth may become infected as a result of serious gum disorders. The removal of the tooth is typically advised to prevent the infection from getting worse.

For aesthetic reasons. Some people choose tooth extraction to get rid of teeth that are aesthetically undesirable to look at, such teeth that have endogenous stains.
